Mundelein sinks LZ; Grayslake North, Central prevail

Sarah Ouimet scored 10 points, and Mundelein's girls basketball team upset host Lake Zurich 33-32 Friday night in North Suburban Conference action.

Kendall Wald added 8 points for the Mustangs. Mundelein (3-4, 1-1) led 20-18 at halftime and 27-22 after three quarters.

Lake Zurich fell to 3-4 and 1-1.

Grayslake North 80, North Chicago 45: Savannah Guenther and Sidney Lovitsch scored 20 and 19 points, respectively, as the host Knights won big in Northern Lake County action.

Abbey Guenther added 17 points for Grayslake North (6-2, 2-0), which won its fifth in a row.

Grayslake Central 60, Round Lake 37: Amanda Larson scored 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Lindsay Brust added 10 for the host Rams in the Northern Lake County game.

It was the fourth win in a row for Grayslake Central (4-3, 2-0), which also got 8 points from Rosie Drevline.

Round Lake (1-4, 1-1) was led by Diane Flade's 14 points, which included three 3-pointers.

Lakes 47, Wauconda 38: Natalie Iacopetti scored 13 points, Sarah Zellmann added 11, and the visiting Eagles notched the Northern Lake County win.

Lakes (2-5, 1-1) also got 8 points from Mia Edwards.

"We played excellent, disciplined defense in the first half," Eagles coach Brian Phelan said. "After a sloppy defensive effort in the third, we mentally recovered to play smart basketball near the end of the fourth quarter. Good conference win on the road."

Wauconda (3-3, 0-2) was led by Katie Rossetti with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Michaela Kimbell and Allie Tylka each had 8 points for the Bulldogs.

Libertyville 52, Zion-Benton 42: Caroline Frea had 16 points and 13 rebounds, as the visiting Wildcats won in North Suburban action to snap a three-game losing streak.

Claire Keefe added 11 points and 5 rebounds for Libertyville (3-4, 1-1), which shot 13 of 13 from the foul line. Riley Weis made 6 free throws in the final two minutes.

"We're happy to get a win in our first conference road game of the season," coach Greg Pedersen said. "We feel that we're getting better every day, especially our younger players, and we're getting big minutes from our bench as well."

Zion-Benton fell to 4-3 and 0-2.

Vernon Hills 61, Glenbrook North 27: Kayla Caudle's season-high 15 points and 9 rebounds led the visiting Cougars in their first Central Suburban League North Division game.

Vernon Hills (3-4) also got 12 points from Katie Burrows and 9 from Sarah Demas.

"It was a great atmosphere in our first-ever CSL North game," Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner said. "Our girls played well defensively and were aggressive offensively."

Lake Forest 55, Waukegan 37: The Scouts improved to 6-1 and 2-0 in the North Suburban.
