Victim dies 9 years after beating, charge upgraded to murder

CHICAGO (AP) - Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a Chicago man after the man he was convicted of beating in 2007 died in October.
Terry Hood was in Cook County court on Thursday and ordered held without bail. The 61-year-old Hood has been in prison serving a 22-year sentence in the Pinckneyville Correctional Center for beating romantic rival Robert Bishop with a hammer and binding Bishop's hands and feet with an electrical cord. Authorities say Hood accused Bishop of sleeping with his girlfriend.
The Cook County medical examiner ruled that Bishop died Oct. 24 at a Maywood hospital from complications of a traumatic brain injury suffered in that assault.
Hood was previously convicted of aggravated battery to a senior.
