No injuries when Metra train strikes vehicle in Mt. Prospect

Nobody was injured when a Metra train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line struck a vehicle in Mount Prospect during Thursday evening's commute.

Train No. 635, scheduled to arrive Crystal Lake at 6:10 p.m. struck the vehicle at about 5:30 p.m. near Northwest Highway and Mount Prospect Road, Metra spokeswoman Meg Thomas-Reile said.

Nobody was injured in the car or on the train, Mount Prospect Fire Battalion Chief Aaron Grandgeorge said.

"A female driver was on the tracks and got out of the car before the train struck her," he said.

It wasn't clear how the car ended up on the tracks in the first place, Grandgeorge said.

The train remained halted for about an hour and a half, while officials investigated, Thomas-Reile said. Trains ran anywhere from 15 to 90 minutes behind throughout the evening.
