Lake Park to present 'A Charlie Brown Christmas'

It's hard to imagine the holiday season without "A Charlie Brown Christmas" popping up on TV.

But this month, fans of the Charles M. Schulz classic also will be able to see the story come to life on the Lake Park High School stage.

Students in the school's drama department will perform the show at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8; 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9; 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the East Campus, 600 S. Medinah Road, Roselle.

A children's event, "Soup to Peanuts," will be held prior to the Sunday matinee. The event includes lunch, games, crafts and cookie decorating from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Lake Park East Campus cafeteria. Admission to the pre-show is $10 per family.

The stage adaptation that follows features Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts Gang as they discover the true meaning of Christmas.

When Charlie Brown complains about the overwhelming materialism he sees, Lucy suggests he become director of the school Christmas pageant. He accepts, but it proves to be a frustrating endeavor.

When an attempt to restore the proper holiday spirit with a forlorn little Christmas tree fails, he needs Linus' help to discover the real meaning of the holiday.

Performers include George Martinez as Charlie Brown, Lexi Isbell as Sally, Hannah Bonilla as Snoopy, Angela Krokos as Lucy, Niko Callas as Linus, Matt Dums as Schroeder, Grace Tolentino as Peppermint Patty, Dorotka Widelka as Marcie, Dominic Rose as Pig Pen, Brooke Heitman as Frieda, and Christiana Gatbunton as Violet.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for non-Lake Park students. Admission is free for senior citizens, children younger than 13 and Lake Park students. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
