Chicago Bears get Fuller back at practice

Cornerback Kyle Fuller participated in Wednesday's practice to open a three-week window during which he can be added to the 53-man roster from injured reserve.

Fuller, the Chicago Bears' 2014 first-round pick from Virginia Tech, had arthroscopic knee surgery during the preseason but did not respond as hoped.

He was unable to play in any of the first three games and then placed on injured reserve on Sept. 28.

It would be a surprise if he's asked to do much, if anything, on Sunday after such a long layoff, but the Bears are hoping he will return soon.

"I was encouraged by what I saw," coach John Fox said. "But now (it's about) getting him back in the groove. It's not like he's been away and not in meetings, not paying attention to what we're doing. We'll see how the week progresses."

Fuller had been a starter since the third game of his rookie season, when he tied for the team lead with 4 interceptions. But he had an up-and-down sophomore season, so he probably will need to earn his playing time.

Best-case scenario for the final five games?

"Five wins," Fuller said.

And on a personal basis?

"Just being out there on the field," he said.

No turnover zone:

Only the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have 7, have fewer take-aways than the Bears' 8.

Not coincidentally, both teams are 2-9.

In their last four games, the Bears have forced just 1 turnover.

"It is a problem, and we're not getting enough take-aways, that's for sure," defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. "It's one of the reasons we have the record we have. We just have to do a better job of getting playmakers to make plays at the ball and get the ball out.

"We had one last week. We got it out, but we didn't cover it. We've got to get more than that."

Cornerback Tracy Porter forced a fumble by Tennessee Titans running back DeMarco Murray but tight end Anthony Fasano recovered.

Wait 'til next year:

Since only one player can be designated to return from injured reserve and that's Kyle Fuller, wide receiver Kevin White will not be back this season.

White was drafted seventh overall in 2015 but missed his entire rookie season following surgery for stress fractures in his left shin. After catching 19 passes in the first four games this season, he suffered a fractured fibula and sprained ankle.

"We anticipated that a little bit when we saw the severity of his ankle injury with the fibula and the surgery," coach John Fox said. "We weren't real optimistic that he'd make it back."

Injury report:

In addition to quarterback Jay Cutler (right shoulder), safety Adrian Amos (foot) and wide receiver Eddie Royal (foot) did not practice Wednesday.

Five players were limited: guard Josh Sitton (ankle), defensive lineman Mitch Unrein (back), linebacker Leonard Floyd (concussion) and cornerbacks Deiondre' Hall (ankle) and Tracy Porter (knee).
