College volleyball: Postseason accolades for Harper's Mayer, Vilsoet

Weeks after helping Harper College claim the school's first NJCAA Division III women's volleyball championship, sophomore setter Kayla Mayer earned individual All-American status.

In 44 matches, Mayer accumulated 902 digs - the most in the country. She had 22 in the Nov. 12 national championship match.

Two other players from North Central Community College Conference teams gained All-American status.

Harper's Bob Vilsoet was one of a pair of coaches to win AVCA two-year college Region Coach of the Year Awards, representing the Midwest.

Vilsoet, a 15-year veteran, led the Hawks to a 43-1 record. It's the first time he has earned an AVCA Coach of the Year honor.

• In men's soccer, both sophomore forward Colin O'Meara and coach Dan Klaus earned Region IV honors.

O'Meara, a Palatine alum, led the Hawks in assists with 8 to go along with 4 goals.

In his second year leading the program, Klaus saw his group amass a 15-3-1 record.
