Tradition continues with annual Steeple Walk Sunday

A Geneva tradition continues as the Steeple Walk ushers in the holidays, greeting patrons with a variety of seasonal music concerts at four Geneva churches.

Presented by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission, the eighth annual event will take place from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

Two audience groups will attend 20-minute concerts played simultaneously at the United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St., and Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. Third St. After the performances, the groups will switch venues to enjoy the other concert.

Patrons will then walk to the final performances - and similar rotation format - at both the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 102 S. Second St.; and First Church of Christ, Scientist, 111 S. Second St.

A Steeple Walk guide escorts the groups to the next church, all within easy walking distance, and shares information about the architecture of each site.

Artists performing at each church include:

• United Methodist Church: The Geneva High School Jazz Choir, who are chosen through audition, is an outstanding ensemble and has been a Fox Valley favorite.

• Geneva Lutheran Church: The Misty River Music Makers are the region's premier a cappella women's chorus group whose vivacious style has been entertaining audiences for years.

• Unitarian Universalist Society: Patrons will listen to a piano and violin duet. Pianist Patricia Arzaga is a member of the North Central College Piano Academy. Violinist Elena Spiegel has played in the Chicago Youth Symphony and recently was selected for its elite string group.

• First Church of Christ, Scientist: Playing Celtic, classical and folk music, Guitarist Tim Lockman's style has been compared to Gordon Lightfoot and James Taylor.

Steeple Walk tickets cost $12 per person and are available for purchase on the city's website at www.geneva.il.us/steeplewalk. Tickets also are on sale at the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, 8 S. Third St.; Circa, 123 S. Third St.; or any of the participating churches. Seating is limited, and attendance by children under age 6 is not recommended.

The event caps off Geneva's popular holiday weekend with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce holding its annual Christmas Walk & House Tour, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3. For information about the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission, visit www.genevarts.org.
