Antioch handles Wauconda; Lake Zurich edges Libertyville

Ashley Reiser scored a season-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers, and Antioch's girls basketball team beat Wauconda 53-33 Tuesday night in its home opener.

Amy Reiser added 8 points and dished out a team-high 6 assists for the Sequoits, who won their fifth in a row. Erika Gallimore also scored 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the Northern Lake County Conference opener.

While Antioch (5-1) faltered offensively in the second half, its tenacious defense forced 31 Wauconda turnovers.

Katie Rossetti had 13 points for Wauconda (3-1), and Allie Tylka had 9.

Lake Zurich 34, Libertyville 31: Grace Kinsey and McKenna Zobel each scored 10 points for the visiting Bears in the North Suburban opener.

Freshman Ella Gilbertson added 8 for Lake Zurich.

Carolina Frea scored 8 points for Libertyville (2-4).

"This was a tough battle," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. "Give Lake Zurich a lot of credit. Their defense made it difficult for us to find quality shots. I love our fight, though. Our team plays hard and sticks together."

Stevenson 61, Waukegan 22: Madison Wicklund led all scorers with 14 points, as the host Patriots won their North Suburban opener.

Ashley Richardson added 11 points for Stevenson (4-2), which had players score.

Grayslake Central 49, Grant 40: Ania Barnes had 15 points and 8 rebounds, as the visiting Rams pulled out the Northern Lake County opener.

Maura Fitzgerald added 9 points and 5 rebounds for Grayslake Central (3-3), which won its third in a row. Rosie Drevline chipped in 7 points.

Ally Mahinay and Mallory Harrity each scored 10 points for Grant (0-6).

Round Lake 35, North Chicago 26: Sophomore Emily Etherington scored 9 points, as the Panthers won the Northern Lake County opener.

Hannah Brooks added 8 for Round Lake.

Grayslake North 48, Lakes 38: The visiting Knights captured the Northern Lake County opener to improve to 4-2 overall.

Lakes (1-5) was led by Sara Smith with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Natalie Iacopetti and Sarah Zellmann each had 8 points for the Eagles.

"Give North credit," Lakes coach Brian Phelan said. "They played an aggressive 2-3 zone. We struggled during the second quarter and dug a hole that was hard to climb out of. (Sidney) Lovitsch is a hard cover. She penetrated our defense well and got to the foul line often. We need to clean up some areas of concern moving forward."

Lake Forest 49, Mundelein 27: Maeve Summerville scored 12 points to lead the visiting Scouts in the North Suburban opener.

Halle Douglass and Tori Salanty added 9 apiece for Lake Forest (5-1).

Sarah Ouimet had 10 points for Mundelein (2-4).

Glenbrook South 46, Vernon Hills 40: The Cougars lost their first Central Suburban League contest, as the host Titans took the crossover.

Katie Burrows had 11 points and Kayla Caudle added 8 points and 18 rebounds for Vernon Hills (2-4). The Cougars also got 8 points from Emma Pappano and 7 from Kylie Bunning.
