No challenger emerges in Hoffman Estates mayoral race

Hoffman Estates Mayor William McLeod remained uncontested Monday in his bid for a fifth elected term as candidate filing closed for a potential Feb. 28 village primary.

Four trustee candidates will vie for three available seats on the Hoffman Estates village board, which is not enough to trigger the need for a primary.

Similarly, the three uncontested incumbents running for Schaumburg village trustee won't appear on ballots until the April 4 general election.

Running for the three available Hoffman Estates trustee seats are incumbents Michael Gaeta and Karen Mills and newcomers Karen Arnet and Nicholas Waryas.

Incumbent Gayle Vandenbergh is not seeking re-election.

Hoffman Estates Village Clerk Bev Romanoff. like McLeod, is uncontested in her bid for re-election.

Schaumburg Trustees Marge Connelly, Frank Kozak and Jack Sullivan also are unchallenged as they seek new terms.

A primary election would have been triggered in either village if the number of candidates had been more than four times the number of available seats for any office.

McLeod was first appointed a trustee on the Hoffman Estates village board in 1980, before winning election to that office several times during the '80s and '90s.

After the death of then Mayor Michael O'Malley in September 2000, McLeod's fellow trustees appointed him acting mayor. He's been elected four times since 2001.
