East Chicago man convicted of attempted murder gets 92 years
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - An East Chicago man convicted of attempted murder and weapons charges in shootings that injured two adults has been sentenced to 92 years in prison.
The (Lafayette) Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/2g1mCjo) prosecuting attorney Jennifer Keifer said during the sentencing Wednesday that 32-year-old Hirman Eugene Jackson emptied a handgun into a car full of five people on Feb. 12, leaving one many paralyzed on the left side of his body. A 2-year-old also sustained cuts and abrasions from broken glass.
A jury convicted Jackson in September, while Judge Thomas Busch found him guilty on two remaining weapons charges during an October bench trial.
In a pre-sentence report, Jackson reportedly told investigators that he "was the victim" and that people in the car were trying to rob him.
