Benefit set for Batavia High entrepreneurship program

A fundraiser benefiting the Batavia High School INCubator Entrepreneurship Program is scheduled for Dec. 4.

Community members are invited to join local business owners and professionals involved with the program for this first networking and informational event from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Penrose Brewing Co., 509 Stevens St., Geneva.

The cost is $50 per person, which includes food and two beverages, a souvenir Penrose glass, and a tour of the brewing company. Register at bhs-incubator.ezregister.com.

"The INCubator program offers BHS students an authentic entrepreneurship experience," said Brian Gamlin, divisional coordinator for STEM and program director. "Working in teams, students create and fully develop their own product or service with help from local business owners and their classroom instructor."

Now in its second year, the INCubator Entrepreneurship Program is taught by high school math teacher and coach Dennis Piron.

Funds raised for the program will be managed by the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence. Proceeds will be used for INCubator classroom upgrades, seed money to help Batavia High students develop their products and services, and the end-of-year pitch night contest where students present their products and services to real investors at the Batavia Fine Arts Centre.
