Contested Hoffman Estates trustee race appears

After three days of candidate filing for potential Feb. 28 village board primary elections in Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg, only a barely contested trustee race in Hoffman Estates has materialized.

Running for three available trustee seats are incumbents Michael Gaeta and Karen Mills as well as newcomers Karen Arnet and Nicholas Waryas.

Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod and Village Clerk Bev Romanoff are so far uncontested in their bids for new terms.

Schaumburg Trustees Marge Connelly, Frank Kozak and Jack Sullivan announced their intentions to run again in September, and no one has yet filed to challenge them.

The filing period runs through Monday, Nov. 28.

Unless the number of candidates is more than four times the number of available seats for each office, an election won't be held in either village until April 4.
