Niles West edges Hersey in double OT

Hersey's boys basketball team got some extra work in during its season opener, falling 91-86 to Niles West in double overtime in tournament play Monday at Glenbrook North.

Chris O'Toole finished with a team-high 27 points, which inlcuded a pair of 3s and an 11-for-14 effort at the foul line.

The Huskies had four others score in doubles figures - Ken Hasley (14 points), Grant Wagner (13), Joe Coffaro (12) and Eddie Mleko (10).

Niles West senior guard Mirsad Mackic led all scorers with 31 points.

Barrington 51, Prairie Ridge 34: The Broncos got their season off to a winning start, breaking open a close game by scoring 23 points in the third quarter in Crystal Lake Central tournament play.

Sophomore forward Jason Boock had 11 of his game-high 16 points in that period for Barrington. Boock finished with three 3s, while junior guard Anthony Spann scored 13 points and senior forward Bart Susol had 11.

Schaumburg Christian 67, IMSA 44: The Conquerors got their season started with a decisive win in nonconference play.

Glenbrook North 62, Hoffman Estates 58: The Hawks dropped their season opener to tournament host Glenbrook North.

Evanston 65, Libertyville 53: The Wildkits got off to a winning start at St. Viator with win against the Wildcats.
