Interfaith service draws nearly 1,300 in Buffalo Grove

For 26 years, the annual interfaith Thanksgiving celebration in Buffalo Grove has brought members of local Christian and Jewish congregations together in prayer. This year's service drew a standing-room-only crowd Sunday night at St. Mary Catholic Church. "Our nation is in the middle of a difficult time, filled with division and harshness," Rabbi Lisa Bellows of Congregation Beth Am in Buffalo Grove said in the opening prayer. Former Fremd runner's heart beats on through fundraiser, student screenings

Joshua Jared Hardy, a former all-area cross-country and track athlete at Fremd High School, died suddenly of a heart condition in 2009 while he was a 21-year-old student at the University of Illinois. Seven years later, Hardy's spirit lived on yesterday when more than 100 runners took part in Hoofin' 4 Hardy, a 5K run and 2-mile walk in Palatine that raises funds to provide local high school students with free heart screenings. Science equipment sparks fire at Christian Liberty Academy

Science equipment caught fire yesterday morning at Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights, causing minor damage to items inside the school building, officials said. Nobody was injured, and the school is safe for occupancy. Full story.

Tree-lighting opens holiday season in Bensenville

Organizers of Holiday Magic in Bensenville got a quick jump on the season yesterday evening with a three-hour party that included music, face painting and fundraisers to collect toys, coats and food. The event featured free holiday movies at the Bensenville Theater and sleigh rides. Santa also arrived riding the Yuletide Express to take pictures with kids and to be on hand for the tree-lighting ceremony that capped off the evening. Full story.

Bulls beat Lakers without Wade

Dwyane Wade decided to sit out the second leg of the Bulls' back-to-back games in Los Angeles. So Jimmy Butler had to fly solo on Sunday against the Lakers, and he delivered.
