D15 bond issue was just too big

By now, most District 15 residents have learned that the recent $130 million referendum was voted down in last Tuesday's election. No one should doubt that the final vote truly reflects the feelings of the District 15 community overall.

As a longtime resident of Palatine, I took the opportunity to speak randomly to hundreds of residents in the district over the past month leading up to the election. This bond issue may have seemed attractive to some, including parents, for various and good reasons but it was easy for me to see that this was a very unpopular proposition. The case was not made to residents that something of this magnitude was really necessary.

My take-away from this entire experience is that residents are going to be paying more attention to any type of future bond issue for various reasons, not the least of which is always rising property taxes.
