Peaceful future starts with each of us

To those on the left and those who have taken to the streets: Please, stop burning the American flag. Please, stop bashing in sculptured heads of Donald Trump. Please, stop the hate speech. Please, stop the physical violence. Please, stop calling for the assassination of Donald Trump.

Please, stop hurting yourselves and those who disagree with you.

You said, "words matter, behaviors matter, what people do matters." If that is true, then hold yourselves to the same standard. It is your right to continue to protest and be upset, but if you can't do it without acts of vile or hatred, then you are no better than the very things/people you are raging against.

To those who supported Donald Trump: Please, ask that your leaders/friends/family call for a stop to those groups that have taken a Trump presidency as an opportunity and a license to support racism, hatred and discrimination.

Please, do not sit in silence and only behind closed doors, say, "Those people are not what I stand for." Extremists have taken your good values and best intentions, and are turning them into something malicious. Please, publicly and vocally, ask for it to stop.

It is time for everyone to stand together and de-escalate the madness. If we want peace, mercy, understanding and cohesion, then it starts with each one of us - you, me and our nation's leaders.

Stand up. Rise up. Fight for the insanity to stop.

The days will roll forward. Each day has many hours, many minutes and many opportunities to bring our country back together.

Act with purpose. We can fix it - but, while we are busy pointing fingers and slurring hate and criticisms, we are bypassing valuable time to start the healing.

Peace be with us all.
