Prospect Heights holds forum on water issues

The Prospect Heights Water Committee hosted its first educational water forum at Old Orchard Country Club, addressing topics from well water purification to how to bring Lake Michigan water to the community through creation of Special Service Areas.

The Water Committee, which had been disbanded for some time, was recently reconstituted with Mayor Nick Helmer appointing Bob Korvas as chairman and City Clerk Wendy Morgan-Adams providing initial support in the restructuring.

Over the past year, the committee's first few meetings offered spirited exchanges as the committee surveyed single-family residences serviced by private wells to collect data and opinions on well and city water.

Through the survey, volunteer groups and the current committee membership were formed. Soon the Water Committee members created subcommittees on Well Water Improvement and Special Service Area education.

Helmer said he was impressed by how well the Nov. 12 forum was received and pronounced future forums would be held.

The committee consists of Dee Munroe, Secretary Kay Michaely, Ralph Kendall, Lou Ennesser, Sean Dwyer, Vice Chairwoman Ann Kurilich and Korvas. Meetings are at 8 a.m. the third Saturdays of the month at city hall, 8 N. Elmhurst Road.

Korvas encouraged audience members to get involved, calling the city a diamond in the rough.

"As a community, it's up to us to exert a little pressure through participation and involvement, so that it becomes a fine and finished diamond."
