Images: Icons of Lily Lake

Located in Kane County at the intersection of Illinois Highways 47 and 64, Lily Lake was incorporated in 1990. It was initially founded as Canada Corners in the 1800s.

Visitors will quickly notice the absence of a lake in the village. According to one local legend, it was drained early in the 20th century following an outbreak of typhoid.

Now content with a pond and wetland, Lily Lake was once a viable life source for Native Americans who would fish the waters and hunt in the vast expanse of hilly terrain.

With a current population of less than 1,000, Lily Lake is a quiet community with an impressive history.

The Lily Lake Cemetery is the resting place of Abner Powers, who fought in the Revolutionary War and died in 1852.

Lily Lake Grade School was built in 1918 and hosted the Community Fair from 1920 to 1940.
