The Great Train Show makes stop at Lake County Fairgrounds

Clack, clack, clack sounds filled the air inside the large exhibition hall Sunday at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake while young and old train enthusiasts were mesmerized watching trains go round and round on the their tracks.

The Great Train Show, which organizers say is the nation's only coast-to-coast model train show, pulled into Grayslake this weekend. Four thousand people were expected for the two-day show designed for train lovers of all kinds.

"Everybody either knows somebody who has a model train or they had a model train when they were a kid. This brings back a lot of memories for people," said show manager Randy Bachmann. "We like bringing people together all under one roof for the weekend. You just kind of have fun with trains."

The show featured more than 250 tables of trains for sale, 60 exhibitors from across the country, a Lego layout, door prizes and a riding train for kids.

The Lake County Society of Model Engineers and the JM Model Railroad organizations had operating HO scale displays and the Chicagoland Association of S Gaugers ran trains in its 16-foot by 24-foot display.
