Family Reading Night comes to Gail Borden Library

The Fox Valley Reading Council hosted Illinois Reads, Family Reading Night on Thursday, Nov. 17, at Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin.

Many children came into the Meadows Community Rooms to pick free books with their golden ticket, get bookmarks and posters, and enjoy time with Sampson, a therapy dog from Alliance of Therapy Dogs, with Elgin resident Janet Pritza.

Under the Illinois Reading Council Illinois Reads is a yearly statewide project promoting reading for all. Beginning with read-aloud books for babies, six books are selected for each additional band of readers: birth to age 4, kindergarten to second grade, third to fifth grade, sixth to eighth grade, ninth to 12th grade, and throughout adult readers. A variety of topics and themes are chosen for each age level.

The work of Illinois authors are especially highlighted. State Librarian Jesse White is Honorary Chair. Illinois Reads focuses on reading at home and in the classroom. Fox Valley Reading Council is the local chapter who sponsored this event, in conjunction with Gail Borden Library. Ryan Schaefer chaired the event for Fox Valley Reading Council.
