Suspect in Indiana crash that killed 3 surrenders to police

BLOOMFIELD, Ind. (AP) - A man suspected in an Indiana crash that killed three family members returning from a band competition has surrendered to authorities after they issued a warrant for his arrest.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/2g81SEH ) that 19-year-old Mason Hartke faces six felony charges, including three counts of reckless homicide. He surrendered to Green County authorities Saturday and is being held on $60,000 bond.

The July 13 crash on Interstate 69 in Green County killed Sophie Rinehart, 17, David Rinehart, 46, and Ruth Rinehart, 74. David Rinehart had pulled over to the highway's shoulder after hitting a deer when his car was struck.

Investigators suspect Hartke was driving drunk at the time.

Sophie Rinehart had performed with the Castle High School marching band the previous day in Indianapolis.
