Attorney retained in Lake Zurich High hazing case

An attorney who handled a lawsuit in the Maine West High School soccer team hazing case has been retained by the family of a student-athlete alleged to have been victimized in a similar way by Lake Zurich High School football players. In a news release, lawyer Antonio Romanucci claimed there has been "widespread, egregious" misconduct by some football team members over the last few months this year. Full story.

Palatine man sentenced to 5 years for sexually abusing teen

A Palatine man whose criminal background includes convictions on drug and battery charges pleaded guilty Wednesday to sexually abusing a teenage girl earlier this year. In exchange for his guilty plea to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Corey Stoval, 25, was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Hanover Park resident charged with sexual abuse

A 62-year-old Hanover Park man was ordered held on $750,000 bail Wednesday on charges he sexually molested a young girl. Victor Rodriguez is charged with predatory criminal sexual abuse and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. If convicted of the most serious charge, he faces up to 30 years in prison. Full story.

Grayslake man sent to prison for tax evasion

A 70-year-old Grayslake man who operated a manufacturing business in Wisconsin was sentenced to nine months in federal prison for failing to pay taxes on more than $2.3 million in cash transactions, according to federal prosecutors. Herbert C. Watts, the owner and president of the Bristol, Wisconsin-based company Branko Perforating FWD Inc., failed to report cash receipts as income on his taxes from 2009 to 2014. Full story.

Scherzer beats out Lester, Hendricks for Cy Young

Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals has become the sixth pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in both leagues, beating out Cubs starters Jon Lester and Kyle Hendricks. Scherzer led the majors with 284 strikeouts and topped the league with 20 wins. Full story.

The Chicago Bulls couldn't have started the circus road trip much better than defeating Portland 113-88 late Tuesday night.
