1 dead in central Indiana house explosion

SPENCER, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say one person has died in a house explosion in rural central Indiana.

Owen County Sheriff Sam Hobbs confirmed one death in the blast that leveled a two-story brick home Wednesday afternoon. The name of the dead person was not immediately released.

The cause of the explosion wasn't immediately known. Investigators from the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office were at the scene sifting through debris.

The explosion occurred around 12:30 p.m. about a mile east of Spencer or about 45 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
