Take time for swimming, sports during Thanksgiving break

The Schaumburg Park District isn't talking turkey-there's plenty to do the week of Thanksgiving!

The Park District will offer special hours at its facilities when District 54 schools are closed Nov. 23-25. The Community Recreation Center and The Water Works, 505 N. Springinsguth Road; Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way and Schaumburg Tennis Plus, 1416 N. Payne Road, are open on Thanksgiving with limited hours.

Turf fields at Olympic Park, 1675 Old Schaumburg Road, also will be open on the holiday for families wanting to organize a quick game of Thanksgiving football and other sports.

Hours and activities include:

• Open swim, noon-8 p.m., Nov. 23 and 25 at The Water Works. Admission is $5 for youth residents ages 3-17, $7 for youth non-residents, $7 for adult residents and $9 for adult non-residents.

• Adult lap swim, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Nov. 24, at The Water Works.

• CRC fitness center will be open 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Nov. 24.

• Open basketball from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Nov. 24, at Schaumburg Tennis Plus. Non-member cost is $5 for youth residents and $7 for youth non-residents.

• MRC fitness center will be open 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Nov. 24.

• Grounds and trails are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 23-25, at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road. Nature Center exhibits and museum are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 23 and 25 and closed for Thanksgiving.

• Youth open basketball, 3-6 p.m., Nov. 25, at CRC. Non-member cost is $4 for youth residents and $8 for youth non-residents.

• Turf fields will be available for open play from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Nov. 24 at Olympic Park.
