Annual Career Fair and Business expo offers job opportunities

Leyden High School District 212 and The Chamber by O'Hare hosted the 10th Annual Career Fair and Business Expo on Wednesday, November 2 in the field house at West Leyden High School. The fair featured a total of 77 businesses, organizations, schools and military representatives, and attracted about 1200 visitors.

This year's event featured local businesses and current business partners offering information on seasonal, part-time and full-time employment. Representatives from Triton College also will be available to offer information on continuing education opportunities to those community members interested in pursuing a new career or learning new skills.

"The career fair has something for all of our students," says Leyden's Frank Holthouse, Director of Careers and Community Outreach. "It helps underclassmen hone future career choices, and provides a bridge to the real world for upperclassmen. It also is a great opportunity for community members looking for a job to learn more about the companies in our own backyard."

A total of 77 businesses participated, giving jobseekers the chance to meet with company representatives and in some cases fill-out job applications on the spot. Some of the businesses, companies and schools that were represented include Costco, Franklin Park Fire Department, Hilton Chicago O'Hare & Hilton Rosemont, Leyden Credit Union, Ms. Roberts Academy, Paramedic Services of Illinois, Inc., Russo Power Equipment, Super Low Foods and the United States Army Reserve.

Visitors also had the chance to talk with counselors from District 212 and Triton College to learn about the latest trends in career planning and technology.
