Elliott Sadler gets interim crew chief for championship race

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Elliott Sadler will have a new crew chief in the championship-deciding Xfinity Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend.

Kevin Meendering was suspended one race by NASCAR because Sadler's car had two loose lugnuts after the race at Phoenix International Raceway.

JR Motorsports said Tuesday that Meendering picked race operations manager Mike Bumgarner to replace him in Saturday's finale.

Bumgarner has 22 years of experience in NASCAR. He spent 18 years at Hendrick Motorsports and moved to JRM in 2013 as crew chief. He was promoted to oversee race operations the next year.

Sadler will compete against JRM teammate Justin Allgaier and Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez for the title.
