1 shot on Chicago freeway near downtown, 2 hurt in crash

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago expressway was shut down for more than two hours near the city's business district as Illinois State Police investigated a reported shooting.

The eastbound Interstate 290 was closed around 3 p.m. due to a single-vehicle crash. Investigators later determined one person in the vehicle had been shot in the abdomen. Authorities say a 20-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were taken to Stroger Hospital. Their conditions weren't immediately known. Also a child whose condition was unknown, was taken to Rush University Medical Center.

Authorities say they have recovered shell casings at the scene.

Traffic was diverted around the scene of the incident, causing a lengthy backup, until two eastbound lanes reopened around 5:15 p.m.
