School board members deserve our thanks

Woodland District 50 is joining communities throughout the state to say "thank you" to local school board members on Nov. 15, a day designated each year as School Board Members Day in Illinois.

Governance by local school boards results in decisions that build pathways of success for children in our communities. School board members, elected by voters, are entrusted with meeting community expectations for public education and they do so without compensation. Whether it is reading chapters of information about state compliance, making informed decisions about how to best use scarce tax dollars, or attending extracurricular events to support schools, school board members sacrifice time with their families as volunteers who support the work of public education.

Their decisions not only directly impact the school district, students and parents, but they touch the lives of nearly every resident in some way.

At Woodland, our school board members are Mr. Chris Schrantz, president; Mr. Tony DeMonte, vice-president; Mr. Vince Juarez, secretary; Dr. Carla Little; Terry Hall, C.P.A.; Mr. Bill Barnabee, and Mrs. Renae Amen.

We thank them for being on the front line of American democracy as they contribute to the success of our children, our future. They are leaders helping to shape our society.

Dr. Joy A. Swoboda, Superintendent of Schools

Woodland District 50
