Aon extends application deadline for Lincolnshire apprenticeship program

Aon, an insurance brokerage and financial services giant, is seeking applicants for the Aon Apprenticeship Program.

The program gives students from Harper College, City Colleges of Chicago, and others a chance at a job and a career.

The company recently announced that it has extended the application deadline for its apprenticeship program in Lincolnshire to Nov. 28.

Aon's Apprenticeship Program selects 25 students. Those selected will receive training in account management, client support, financial analysis, and information technology, and be qualified for a permanent position at Aon after completion of the program.

"Today, too many of Chicago's young people are being left behind; they have not received the right training for the job market. Meanwhile, employers talk about lacking qualified applicants and lacking a diverse talent pool. We've decided to do something about it," said Bridget Gainer, Aon's vice president of Global Affairs.

The program will allow students to earn money doing something relevant to their field of study and work closely with Aon managers and mentors in a very hands-on experience.

The winning applicants get an immediate, $15-an-hour job at the company, where they get paid for 40 hours weekly while completing their associate degree. Aon also covers the costs of the apprentices' tuition.

Aon will hire 25 apprentices each year for the next four years and apprenticeships are located in Lincolnshire and Chicago. Candidates must qualify and be deemed college ready by Harper College (Lincolnshire hires) or Harold Washington College (Chicago hires) by program start in January 2017.
