Geneva Commons plans holiday events for Black Friday

No need to get up early the day after Thanksgiving to get yourself into the Christmas spirit.

The Geneva Commons mall along the Randall Road corridor is hosting a Light Up the Night holiday event on Friday, Nov. 25, and the events don't even begin until 3 p.m. that day.

Families and friends are invited out to the event for the fun, which will feature Santa, Christmas activities and more.

Beginning at 3 p.m. that day, there will be free carriage rides throughout the mall. The rides will run until 6 p.m.

Santa is expected to arrive at the mall from the North Pole after 5 p.m.

He will help light the Geneva Commons Christmas tree at 5:30 p.m.

Following the tree lighting, good boys and girls can visit with Santa from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the mall near the Geneva Commons Bell Tower.

The event is free and open to the public.

Don't forget Thanksgiving:

Though there are a lot of Christmas events coming up, there also is Thanksgiving fun to be had along the Randall Road corridor this week before the December holidays begin.

The Barnes and Noble along Randall Road in Geneva is hosting a Thanksgiving story time this Saturday.

The event, which begins at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 19, will feature Thanksgiving-themed readings.

There will be two special stories for children that day. The attendees will get to hear "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey," and "The Great Thanksgiving Escape."

To go along with the holiday stories, there will be Thanksgiving coloring and activities that follow the books.

The event is free and open to the public. It is geared toward younger children.

For information, call the Barnes and Noble at (630) 262-8568.

Free beef for a year:

Though it wasn't open in time to hand out free beef sandwiches in honor of the Cubs World Series win like other Buona locations did, the new Buona Beef in Algonquin will be open soon for all of the hungry holiday shoppers out there.

The business, which will be on the east side of Randall Road in Algonquin, is expected to open Monday, Nov. 21.

During the grand opening, a few select guests will get the chance to win free beef for a year from Buona Beef.

The restaurant, serving up fast Italian eats, will be located at 501 S. Randall Road - just south of the Buffalo Wild Wings and Panera Bread in Algonquin, on the same side of the road.
