College volleyball: Harper wins national crown

Harper's women's volleyball team capped a near perfect season with a national championship on Saturday in Rochester, Minn.

Top-seeded in the NJCAA tourney, the Hawks (43-1) won the title by defeating No. 2. Ridgewater College 25-22, 25-22, 25-19.

Kathryn Novy led the coach Bob Visloet's Hawks with 9 kills while setter Katelyn Sommers had 27 assists and 9 digs. The Buffalo Grove grad was also 17-of-18 serving with 2 aces.

Kayla Mayer added 26 digs while Palatine grad and middle hitter Sarah Udoni put down 6 kills, a block and 2 block assists.

Ellie Burzlaff added 6 kills, 14 digs and was 16-of-16 serving.

Udoni was named the national tourney's MVP while Sommers, Novy (Dundee-Crown) and Burzlaff (Harvest Christian Academy) were selected to the all-tourney team.
