Harper teams reign at NJCAA cross country meet

Both the Harper College men's and women's cross country teams took home national titles on Saturday morning in Finger Lakes, NY.

The men stretched their winning streak in NJCAA Division III national championships to six, while the women followed last year's runner-up finish with a team triumph.

The men had a final score of 65 with the nearest opponent, Suffolk CC, scoring 101. The Hawks were led by Ryan Ziolkowski, who placed third overall in 29:29.1. Alan Douglas also had a top-ten finish for the Hawks in 29:36.6, good for sixth place.

The women were led by sophomore sensation Ali Gutt, a Schaumburg High School grad. Harper's top runner all season, Gutt won the individual national title and led Hawks to a team score of 36.

Gutt finished in 19:11.5, more than a minute ahead of the second-place finisher.

Playing key roles for Harper were Dianne Barajas (/Schaumburg) and Natalie Cook (Jacobs), in fifth and eighth, respectively.
