Prospect Marching Knights end season with class 5A sweep

The Prospect Marching Knights ended their 2016 competition season on a high note at the State of Illinois Invitational High School Marching Band Championship held at Illinois State University on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Forty-five bands from around the state of Illinois competed in preliminary competition with 14 bands moving on to the finals. In class 5A, Prospect won first place, best crowd appeal, and all three caption awards for high achievement in music, effect and visual performance.

This gave the PMK an automatic bid in the finals competition against the top bands in the state.

"When you get to a final competition, there is a lot of emotion in both prelims and finals. I feel we really kept that in mind to do our best today," said senior color guard member Sydni Rotunno.

In the finals, Prospect won second place overall, behind the Marian Catholic High School Marching Band.

The Knights' 2016 show, entitled "In the Arena," is a dramatic incarnation of Theodore Roosevelt's iconic quote "The Man in the Arena," which is narrated throughout the show, ending in triumphant victory.

This November, the PMK will travel to New York City to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. For information, visit www.prospectband.com.
