Stop by MCC Night 2016 open house Wednesday

High school students and returning adult students can explore their career options and see what McHenry County College has to offer during MCC Night, the annual open house event, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16.

All prospective adult students, as well as high school juniors, seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend the event, which will take place in the Commons area in Building B on the main campus, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

Students can meet MCC instructors and explore more than 40 MCC programs, including registered nursing, occupational therapy assistant, physical therapy assistant, automotive technology, criminal justice, fire science, graphic design, digital media (including game design), robotics, manufacturing and engineering technology, horticulture, culinary, paralegal and health information technology. Information on MCC's associate's degrees and certificates, financial aid and athletics will also be available.

Free workshops will feature financing a college education, how to apply for scholarships, college classes for high school students (dual credit), how to transfer college credits, and services for students with disabilities. Other highlights include sweet treats made by MCC baking and pastry students and pottery making, along with welding demos, giveaways and a remote radio broadcast from Star 105.5.

"Students can walk around and talk to faculty about programs or classes they're interested in taking," said Kellie Carper, manager of new-student transitions. "In today's economy, students and their parents should look at all their options," Carper said.

"We have excellent programs and instructors and MCC students who transfer do just as well or better than students who start at four-year universities as freshmen."

MCC Night is free and open to the public. No registration is required. During this event only, the application fee will be waived for all high school seniors and prospective adult students who apply to MCC for the summer and fall 2017 semesters.
