Should forest district keep its pensions?

Yes, the Illinois pension system is a runaway train. I am so proud of the DuPage forest preserve commissioners trying to turn the brakes on this train wreck. They are to be commended.

Governor Rauner stopped pensions for all county boards in this state after the next election. So, just out of curiosity what does the forest preserve commission intend to do about their own pensions. It is little noted but a fact, DuPage is the only county in the state with a separate elected forest preserve commission one that still provides a pension to its members. In every other county, all 101, the county board acts as a forest preserve commission.

DuPage split the forest preserve from the county board. So although the county board may lose it pensions the forest preserve commission keeps theirs. Leadership means lead, so lets see Mr. Cantore and the board eliminate their own pensions to be in compliance the obvious intent of the governor and the legislature.
