Family's Norway spruce chosen as Chicago's Christmas tree

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago has chosen a Norway spruce to light up as its official Christmas tree in Millennium Park on Michigan Avenue.

The city announced Wednesday the tree is a 69-footer donated by a Wauconda, Illinois, family. The Scholla family's tree was selected from 129 submissions received.

The family will take part in the city's tree lighting ceremony Nov. 18. The free event will include performances of holiday classics by the Chicago Community Chorus. It will be the city's 103rd annual tree-lighting ceremony.

This is the second year that the Christmas tree will be located at Millennium Park after almost 50 years in Daley Plaza. The tree will be near the ice skating rink and caroling events at the park's Cloud Gate sculpture, also known as the Bean.
