Cook subcircuit races close; circuit court judges retained

In contested races in Cook County's 12th judicial subcircuit - which comprises parts of Arlington Heights, Barrington, Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Schaumburg and Streamwood - Marguerite Anne Quinn defeated Thomas William Flannigan with 52 percent of the vote to fill the Kazmierski vacancy.

James Leonard Allegretti defeated Janet Cronin Mahoney with 54 percent of the vote to fill the Mathein vacancy. Carrie Hamilton prevailed over David Studenroth with 51 percent of the vote to fill the Tristano vacancy, and Steven A. Kozicki defeated James Edward Hanlon Jr. with 52 percent of the vote fill an additional vacancy in the 12th subcircuit.

In the tightly contested 13th subcircuit - which comprises parts of Arlington Heights, Barrington, Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Schaumburg and Streamwood - Kevin Michael O'Donnell received 51 percent of the vote to Ketki "Kay" Steffen's 49 percent.

Catherine Ann Schneider and William B. Sullivan ran unopposed in the 11th judicial subcircuit, which includes parts of Des Plaines and Chicago.

In the judicial retention races, Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans and Third District presiding judge William O. Maki were among the judges Cook County voters retained. All 57 judges up for retention received more than the required 60 percent approval necessary for them to remain on the bench.

Judges Eileen O'Neill Burke and Bertina E. Lampkin were elected to the Illinois Appellate Court from the first district, which includes Cook County. Cook County voters also retained Appellate Court Judge Joy V. Cunningham.
