Joint wake set for Kaneland High students killed in crash

A wake will be held Friday afternoon for two Kaneland High School students killed Nov. 5 in a vehicle crash.

The event for Elijah "Shy" Vajgert and Arthur "Arty" Stenger is 3 to 8 p.m. at Kaneland Meredith Campus (the former middle school), 1N137 Meredith Road, Maple Park.

The two 16-year-olds were best friends, according to their families, having met in seventh grade.

They were killed when a pickup truck Stenger was driving pulled out in front of a grain-hauling truck on Meredith Road near Beith Road. The crash remains under investigation.

There will be separate funeral services.

A funeral Mass will be said for Stenger at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Therese of Jesus Catholic Church, 271 N. Farnsworth Ave., Aurora.

Stenger is survived by his parents, Dave and Rosa Stenger of Maple Park; sister, Alicia; brother Joey; grandfather Jose Rocha; grandmother, Alice Stenger; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Vajgert's funeral is at 9 a.m. Saturday at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn.

He is survived by his parents, Bruce and Carol, of Maple Park; brothers Hunter and Jonah; sister Savannah; grandmothers Anna Marie Vajgert and Shirley Crumb; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

The families have established memorial funds. Checks made to the Elijah Vajgert Memorial or the Arthur Stenger Memorial funds may be sent to P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.

Conley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
