COD Hosts Native American Hip Hop Performance and Poetry Readings

In celebration of November as Native American Heritage Month, College of DuPage students gathered to enjoy a hip hop performance by Tall Paul and poetry readings by Tanaya Winder.

The performances were part of the College's "Native American Identities in a Global Era" Symposium, which included a variety of academic presentations, demonstrations, discussions and film screenings celebrating Native American culture and exploring the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Native Americans amidst growing globalization.

Minneapolis-based Anishinaabe hip hop artist and rapper Paul Wenell Jr., also referred to as "Tall Paul," is known for his Ojibwe-English bilingual work and has released a several singles and albums, including his most recent song "No Good Good Guy."

Raised on the Southern Ute reservation in Ignacio, Colo., poet Tanaya Winder is a writer, artist and educator. She guest lectures and teaches creative writing workshops at high schools and universities internationally and is the Director of the University of Colorado at Boulder's Upward Bound Program, which serves Native American youth across the country.
