Advisory tax question passes muster in Glendale Heights
Glendale Heights voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly supported a nonbinding proposal that recommends all taxing bodies in the village to seek voter approval before increasing their annual property tax levy.
With 31 of 32 precincts reporting, 85.6 percent of Glendale Heights voters supported the measure, unofficial results show.
The Illinois chapter of Americans for Prosperity will point to the results as the conservative group pushes state lawmakers to approve a plan that would freeze what some governments can collect in property taxes but would allow for voter-approved increases. The Illinois House passed the plan earlier this year, and Americans for Prosperity is calling on the Senate to follow suit. The group gathered signatures to put the question on the ballot in six other Illinois municipalities.
