Voters approve $8 million bond issue for Salt Creek District 48

Voters overwhelmingly approved an $8 million bond issue for Salt Creek Elementary District 48 that will allow for structural repairs at its three schools, according to unofficial results.

Approximately 63 percent of voters supported the bond issue, with all precincts reporting. The bond issue will span six years and cost the owner of a $300,000 house roughly $235 more a year.

The money will be used to fix the foundations and roofs at Albright Middle School, Stella May Swartz School and Salt Creek Primary. The repairs are needed due to age and water infiltration.

The district serves about 550 students in all or parts of Oakbrook Terrace, Oak Brook, Elmhurst and Villa Park. School officials say the repairs will be completed over the next few summer breaks.
