Moylan gets nod for third state House term

Two-term Democratic incumbent State Rep. Marty Moylan is going back to Springfield after cruising to victory in the 55th House District race.

According to unofficial numbers, Moylan had 24,787 votes versus Republican Dan Gott's 17,259 votes.

Moylan, the former Des Plaines mayor and alderman, was elected to the House in 2012 and re-elected two years later.

Gott, a retired engineer from Des Plaines, made his first run for public office after getting involved with the Republicans of Maine Township organization in 2014.

During the campaign, Gott tried to tie Moylan to powerful House Speaker Michael Madigan, while Moylan tried to emphasize his record working with both parties to pass legislation.

The district covers portions of Des Plaines, Park Ridge and Elk Grove Village.
