NCH hosts event focusing on lung cancer Nov. 10

Northwest Community Healthcare is shining a light on lung cancer by offering a night of education and support to people affected by the disease, as well as their families and friends.

Shine a Light on Lung Cancer is scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Busse Center for Specialty Medicine's Learning Center on the hospital campus, 800 W. Central Road in Arlington Heights.

Attendees will learn about the latest screenings, treatments and support options. Sponsored by the Lung Cancer Alliance, the program also will feature keynote speaker Dr. John Egan, an interventional pulmonologist on staff at NCH, who will talk about the newest methods for diagnosing lung cancer early.

Dr. Philip Lobo, a radiation oncologist at NCH, will discuss the progress in treating lung cancer, and members from the NCH cancer team also will discuss taking a team approach to treating lung cancer and survivorship.

A lung cancer patient will conclude the program with a personal story, and the night ends with a ceremonial shining of light from flashlights to honor lung cancer survivors and their family members.
