District 300 collecting donations for troops

Community Unit District 300 hosts its seventh annual Veterans Day collection drive benefiting troops starting Monday through Nov. 18.

Each school within the Algonquin-based district will collect a specific item soldiers have requested. Donated items will be sent to those serving via the Illinois chapter of Operation Support Our Troops.

Parents are encouraged to send one or two items on their school list with their children, and students are encouraged to write a note or letter to soldiers thanking them for their service.

Schools are collecting the following items:

• Elementary schools - Algonquin Lakes, gum; Dundee Highlands, Lake in the Hills and Meadowdale, cheese and crackers; Eastview and Lakewood, Rice Krispie Treats (individually wrapped); Gilberts and Liberty, jelly (12 ounce or less; plastic containers only); Golfview and Sleepy Hollow, Pop Tarts; Hampshire, Perry, Parkview and deLacey Family Education Center, cold drink packets; Lincoln Prairie, Goldfish crackers; Neubert, peanut butter (12 ounce or less; plastic containers only); Oak Ridge, mints; Parkview, cold water drink packets; Westfield Community, coffee singles; and Wright Elementary, lip balm.

• Middle schools - Algonquin, Goldfish crackers; Carpentersville, mints; Dundee, peanut butter (12 ounce or less; plastic containers only); and Hampshire, coffee singles.

• High schools - Dundee-Crown, Pop Tarts; Hampshire, jelly (12 ounce or less plastic containers only); and Jacobs, coffee singles.

• Administration offices, coffee singles.
