105 years prison in 2014 murder in Aurora pot deal

A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 105 years in prison Friday after a jury convicted him of gunning down an Aurora man in January 2014 during a drug deal for an ounce of marijuana.

Dimitri Green-Hosey of Joliet must serve 100 percent of the 60-year sentence issued by Kane County Judge D.J. Tegeler for first-degree murder of Arin Williams, 20, of Aurora in January 2014, plus another 45 years for armed robbery.

Green-Hosey faced 20 to 60 years in prison, plus an additional 25 years under state laws because he fired a single, fatal shot into the back of William's head from close range. Green-Hosey also must serve 85 percent of the armed robbery sentence, or a little over 38 years.

Tegeler said it was apparent Green-Hosey had no respect for others. The judge also questioned Green-Hosey's thought process in bringing the gun to the drug deal with intent to use it.

"That process says 'I have no respect for anyone,'" Tegeler said. "I can't imagine the heartache (Williams') family is going through."

Green-Hosey was convicted in late August after a two-day trial in which his brother, Jaquan, testified against him in exchange for a lighter sentence.

Jaquan, 22, testified that he and Dimitri called Williams on Jan. 13, 2014, to buy an ounce of high-grade marijuana. Instead of paying, the plan was for Jaquan to grab the drugs and run while Dimitri acted as muscle when the three met later that night at a Mexican restaurant off Lake Street in Aurora, Jaquan testified.

But after Jaquan grabbed the marijuana, Dimitri and Williams struggled in a hallway in the restaurant. Jaquan testified he heard a shot ring out, and turned around to see Dimitri standing over Williams' body holding a handgun.

"Why did you shoot him?" Jaquan Green-Hosey said to his brother after the shooting, according to trial testimony.

Tegeler said people need to be deterred from using guns for selfish, criminal reasons. "He even had an opportunity after the marijuana was snatched from Mr. Williams to run out the door, to run away. He decided to pull out the gun and shoot him two inches from the back of his head," Tegeler said.
