Ex-McLean County officials pleads guilty to wire fraud

CHICAGO (AP) - Former McLean County Board Chairman Matt Sorensen has pleaded guilty to a federal wire fraud charge, admitting he defrauded a Chicago consulting firm of nearly $500,000.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports (http://bit.ly/2eYBkXE ) Sorensen entered the plea Wednesday during a short hearing in Chicago federal court. Sorensen was indicted in August 2015 on five wire fraud counts in connection with being an internal consultant for State Farm.

Specifically, prosecutors say Sorensen and a McKinsey & Co. consultant submitted false claims to Bloomington-based State Farm. Prosecutors are asking for a term of between 21 and 27 months when Sorensen is sentenced March 2.

Authorities say the fraud took place between 2003 and 2012. Sorensen stopped working with State Farm about three years ago. He resigned his county board seat shortly after the indictment.
