Video: Deer Park suspect told cops he had no good reason to stab woman

A Des Plaines man on trial for stabbing a woman outside a Deer Park movie theater told police on video he didn't have a good reason for the attack but said he is always angry and often unable to control himself.

A police interview video of Daniel Dion in the hours after he allegedly stabbed Katie King, now 26, of Vernon Hills was played for jurors in the second day of his trial in Lake County court.

In the video, Dion, 20, told Lake County Sheriff's Detective Kevin Harris he didn't have a reason for stabbing King more than 20 times after they kissed in the front seat of her vehicle in the parking lot of Century Theater at Deer Park Town Center.

Dion told Harris he goes into extreme rage at times, and he's "always angry."

"I can't control myself," he said on the video. "I just ... I'm just screwed up in the head."

He said King was "very annoying" because "she talks a lot," but added that had nothing to do with the attack.

Dion faces up to 30 years in prison if found guilty of attempted murder, aggravated battery and witness intimidation.

He and King were co-workers Jan. 8, 2014, and decided to go to a movie. They drove to the theater parking lot, then smoked some marijuana in the front seat.

King testified Tuesday that Dion "aggressively" kissed her, before she felt an "explosion of liquid" on her. She said she thought Dion hit her with a water bottle until she saw she was covered in her own blood.

Dion repeatedly tried to stab her with a 4-inch serrated knife as she screamed for help and tried to escape, King said. She finally broke free, but not until she was stabbed or cut on her face, back, neck, arms and chest.

She ran to the movie theater, where employees phoned police.

Police found Dion walking in a nearby industrial area, Assistant State's Attorney Lauren Kalcheim Rothenberg said. When he saw police, Dion dropped to his knees with his arms in the air and said, "He made me do it," referring to a voice Dion allegedly hears in his head.

Defense attorney Ian Kasper said he will introduce expert witnesses to prove Dion was insane during the attack. He said in court Dion is schizophrenic, suffers from bipolar disorders and severe depression.
