Courier TV at COD Receives Six Illinois Broadcast Association Silver Dome Awards, Two Emmy Nominations

Courier TV at College of DuPage has received six Illinois Broadcast Association Student Silver Dome Awards, including first and second places for Best TV Newscast, and two Emmy nominations for college student work.

"This is an amazing outcome for a program that's only two years old," said Jennifer Piehl, Professor of Motion Picture/Television. "Our students actually won more awards than the baccalaureate schools, which really says something about their skills and passion for what they are doing. We couldn't be any prouder of them."

In the Best TV Newscast category, first place went to the student team producing the May 5, 2016 segment (click here to watch): Anthony Amant (Elmhurst), Brittany Archer (Lombard), Alex Bruzek (Glen Ellyn), Stefanie Cervantes (Addison), Kyle Dearborn (Oswego), Meredith Edwards (Bolingbrook), Zach Long (Hanover Park), Frank Miceli (Addison), Matt Miltonberger (Naperville), Robert Nardini (Naperville), Nick Petrillo (Brookfield), Jack Powers (LaGrange Park), Tyler Swanson (Bloomingdale) and Brian Troutman (Glen Ellyn).

Second place was awarded to the student team producing the Oct. 29, 2015 segment (click here to watch): Amant, Cervantes, Dearborn, Matt Elias (Bartlett), Tarek Fayoumi (Naperville), Auste Kuncas (Hinsdale), Miltonberger, Nardini, Dan Pignato (LaGrange Park), Justin Sears (Glen Ellyn), Parrish Walker (Naperville) and Carissa Zavaleta (Brookfield).

For Best TV News Pack, COD took second place for "Concealed Carry" (click here to watch), produced by Bruzek and Dearborn, and third place for "Donald Trump - Chicago Rally" (click here to watch), produced by Nicole Bauer (Glendale Heights), Dearborn and Troutman. Second place for Best TV Longform Programming went to "Inside COD - Volunteer Episode April" (click here to watch), produced by Amant, Justyn Clark (Aurora), Dearborn, Elias, Petrillo, Dillon Schultz (Wheaton) and Janelli Venegas (Warrenville). In addition, third place for Best TV Photojournalism went to "Landscaping" (click here to watch), produced by Amant, Cervantes, Dearborn and Nardini.

In the College Student category, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has nominated Courier TV for two awards: Best College Student Production - Arts and Entertainment/Cultural Affairs for the segment "Black History Month" (click here to watch), produced by Bruzek, Clark, Dearborn and Miceli, and Best College Student Production - Sports for the segment "Athlete of the Week - Matt Fletcher and Evan Kirk" (click here to watch), produced by Amant and Swanson.

Courier TV, which made its debut in spring 2015, is the student-run on-campus television broadcast at COD that covers campus life while providing students with hands-on opportunities to learn about journalism and television production.
