Engineering Club Floats Creative Designs During Cardboard Boat Race

College of DuPage Engineering student Mike Dovel of West Chicago powers across the Physical Education Center pool in a boat made only of cardboard and duct tape during the College of DuPage Engineering Club's third annual boat race.

Under the guidance of Engineering Assistant Professor Scott Banjavcic, Engineering Club members put their knowledge of buoyancy and dynamics to the test by constructing boats using the two materials. After several heats and a final race, Dovel's team -- which also included Adam Begrin of Aurora, Jimmy Ruiz of Oswego and Herven Barham of Aurora - was declared the winner.
