Lyceum series to feature Fox Valley ospreys
The next program in the Batavia Public Library's New Lyceum Lecture Series will feature nature columnist Pam Otto. She will offer an overview of osprey life and behaviors in the Fox Valley during "Osprey Ways."
The lecture will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.
The osprey is listed as endangered in Illinois. Yet ospreys have been nesting at Fermilab since 2009 and during the summer months can be seen soaring over the Fox River in search of fish.
Otto is the manager of nature programs and interpretive services at the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, a St. Charles Park District facility.
The presentation also will feature photography by St. Charles resident Dave Soderstrom. Soderstrom photographs local wildlife - the usual and unusual species - and has devoted considerable time to chronicling the growing presence of osprey in this area.
